Food Allergy or Intolerance Symptoms

If your child exhibits any bloating, gas or loose stools following a meal, your child may be experiencing food intolerance.

If your child is experiencing any of the following following a meal--hives, wheezing, crying, vomiting, diarrhea, flushed ears or cheeks, puffy or red eyes, or difficulty with breathing, they are probably experiencing an allergic reaction to a food. Get in touch immediately with your child's physician.

Indicators That Your Child May Be Susceptible to Allergies.

If either you or your spouse has allergies, it is likely that your child will as well.

Other indications that your child may get allergies some time in their life, include: eczema, red, irritated eyes, bluish-brown discoloration around eyes, recurrent sore throats, chronic nasal conditions, constant throat clearing, bloating or stomach aches after eating, reoccuring nose bleeds, headaches or leg pains.

If allergies run in your family, or if you child has exhibited food intolerance or allergic reactions to some foods, keep a log as to what your child eats and how he/she reacts to certain foods.

Allergy Prevention

The best prevention for food allergies in infants is to breastfeed for at least one year as breastmilk builds and strengthens a child's immune system.
